Welcome To Europe With Us: A 10,000 mile, 1000 photograph motorcycle journey from Scotland to Scotland

By August 2009, the two of us had got rid of all our commitments, saved up about £3000 each, serviced our motorcycles and were free to travel round Europe for as long as we could afford. The idea started out as a trip to Norway after meeting some Norwegian bikers on our two week motorcycle tour of Scotland the year before, but quickly developed into travelling to as many countries as we could before our money ran out.

A few months before we left we started thinking about how long we could afford to travel for, accumulating stuff to take with us, reading up about the countries we might go to and battling with insurance companies. Planning the route went as far as getting to the top of Norway before it got too cold and travelling clockwise from there. Since neither of us had travelled much before this, we didn't have much basis on which to choose the countries we went to and the lap of Europe approach was as good as any.
